10 SUMMERS AS A CAMPER, 12 YEARS AS CAMP STAFF, 4 YEARS AS A CAMP DIRECTOR
Broadway grew up going to a variety of camps and camping experiences. From sports camps to scout camps, day camps to overnight camps, she fell in love with the camaraderie, independence, and fun that camping offered. She began going to basketball day camps at local high schools, followed by overnight camps throughout Virginia. While day camp offered the experience to improve her sports skills and make friendships with children in her neighborhood, overnight camp offered outdoor life and cooking, campfires and new friendships.
During high school Broadway started working as a counselor/coach at Westfield High School Basketball day camp. She also attended various sports camps at local universities and organizations. During college, she started working at overnight camp, working as a Unit Counselor, Unit Leader, Travel Director, and then 3 years as Assistant Camp Director. Broadway has also served as Camp Director for multiple non-profit community-based day camps.
Outside of camping, Broadway has her Masters of Science in Elementary Education, along with her graduate endorsement in Gifted Education. She is in her twelfth year teaching 4th grade in Northern Virginia at a Title I elementary school, serving a wide diversity of students including English Language Learners, students with disabilities, advanced learners, and students living at or near poverty levels.

Co-Founder & Executive Director
7 SUMMERS AS A CAMPER, 17 YEARS AS CAMP STAFF, 13 YEARS AS A CAMP DIRECTOR
Smiley began her camping adventures at Camp Crowell Hilaka in Richfield, Ohio. Between the hundreds of acres of forest, lakes and platform tents, she fell in love with camping. But it was the kind, supportive camp atmosphere, created by the one-of-a-kind camp staff, that kept her coming back summer after summer. Smiley climbed the camping ranks, starting as a Counselor-In-Training and Junior Counselor, then a Unit Leader, Lifeguard, Riding Instructor, Health Manager, and finally as a Camp Director.
Alongside her camping career, Smiley earned a degree in mathematics and physics. She taught pre-school in northeast Ohio and middle school math in Baltimore City. She is also a professional ski instructor and enjoys keeping up her camp skills, such as kayaking, climbing, hiking, biking, and rafting.
Most recently, Smiley directed a non-profit summer camp in Loudoun County, Virginia, along with her now Co-Founder, Broadway. Together they built a safe camp environment full of love and acceptance, where over 1,400 campers could thrive each summer. They also enjoyed creating new camp programs, including canoeing on the Potomac River and biking on the WO&D Trail, with campouts along the way!

Currently, Smiley works as a camping consultant with non-profit camps in the DC area. She specializes in the areas of staff training, non-profit finance, human resources, and camp staff support.

Smiley and her husband, Andrew live in Northern Virginia with their 10-year-old son, Aaron, and their daughter, Juliet, born in October 2023!
